I. Thì Quá khứ tiếp diễn - The past continuous tense

1. CẤU TRÚC CỦA THÌ QUÁ KHỨ TIẾP DIỄN
1.1. Khẳng định:
S + was/were + V-ing
Trong đó: S (subject): chủ ngữ
V-ing: động từ thêm “–ing”
CHÚ Ý:
- S = I/ He/ She/ It + was
- S = We/ You/ They + were
Ví dụ:
- She was cooking dinner at 5 p.m yesterday.(Cô ấy đang nấu bữa tối vào lúc 5h chiều hôm qua)
- They were playing badminton when I came yesterday.
1.2. Phủ định:
S + wasn’t/ weren’t + V-ing
Câu phủ định tả chỉ cần thêm “not” ngay sau “to be”.
CHÚ Ý:
- was not = wasn’t
- were not = weren’t
Ví dụ:
- He wasn’t working when his boss came yesterday.
- We weren’t watching TV at 9 p.m yesterday.
1.3. Câu hỏi:
Was/ Were + S + V-ing ?
Trả lời: Yes, I/ he/ she/ it + was. – No, I/ he/ she/ it + wasn’t.
Yes, we/ you/ they + were. – No, we/ you/ they + weren’t.
Câu hỏi ta chỉ cần đảo “to be” lên trước chủ ngữ.
Ví dụ:
- Was your mother going to the market at 7 a.m yesterday?
Yes, she was./ No, she wasn’t.

Yes, they were./ No, they weren’t.

- At this time 2 days ago, I was travelling in America.
- He was chatting with his friend when his mother came into the room.
- They were working when we got there.

- My mother was cooking lunch while my father was cleaning the floor at 10 am yesterday. (Mẹ tôi đang nấu ăn trong khi bố tôi đang lau nhà lúc 10h sang hôm qua.)
- I was studying English while my brother was listening to music last night. (Tôi đang học tiếng Anh trong khi anh trai tôi đang nghe nhạc tối hôm qua.)
- at + giờ + thời gian trong quá khứ (at 12 o’clock last night,…)
- at this time + thời gian trong quá khứ. (at this time two weeks ago, …)
- in + năm (in 2000, in 2005)

III. So sánh hơn với tính từ - Comparative forms of Adjecttives

2. Cấu trúc câu so sánh hơn
Đối với tính từ ngắn
Đối với tính từ dài
S1 + to be + adj-er + than + S2
S1 + to be + more + adj + than + S2
China is bigger than India.
(Trung Quốc to lớn hơn Ấn Độ.
Lan is shorter than Nam.
(Lan thì thấp hơn Nam).
My house is bigger than your house.
(Nhà của tôi to hơn nhà của bạn).
His pen is newer than my pen.
(Bút của anh ấy mới hơn bút của tôi).
Ví dụ:

(Vàng có giá trị hơn bạc).
Hanh is more beautiful than Hoa.
(Hạnh thì xinh hơn Hoa).
Your book is more expensive than his book.
Exercise 1 is more difficult than exercise 2.
(Bài tập số 1 khó hơn bài tập số 2)
Lưu ý:
Để nhấn mạnh ý trong câu so sánh hơn, ta thêm “much” hoặc “far” trước hình thức so sánh.
Ví dụ:
Her boyfriend is much/far older than her.
old - older, near - nearer
Tính từ kết thúc bởi nguyên âm “e” => chỉ cần têm đuôi “r”
nice – nicer
Tính từ kết thúc bởi 1 nguyên âm (a,i,e,o,u) + 1 phụ âm => gấp đôi phụ âm cuối và thêm đuôi –er.
big – bigger, hot – hotter , fat – fatter , fit – fitter
Tính từ kết thúc bởi “y”, dù có 2 âm tiết vẫn là tính từ ngắn => bỏ “y” và thê,
happy – happier,
pretty - prettier
* Lưu ý:
Một số tính từ có hai âm tiết kết thúc bằng "et, ow, le,er, y" thì áp dụng Quy tắc thêm đuôi -er như tính từ ngắn.
Ví dụ: quiet => quieter
clever – cleverer
simple – simpler
narrow – narrower
Dạng so sánh hơn
good
better
bad
worse
far
farther/further
much/many
more
little
less
old
older/elder

IV.

Ví dụ: hard, fast, near, far, right, wrong,...
S1 + V + adv-er + than + S2
S1+ V + more/less + adv + than S2
They work harder than I do.
(Họ làm việc chăm chỉ hơn tôi)
She runs faster than he does.
(Cô ấy chạy nhanh hơn anh ấy)
My mother gets up earlier than me.
(Mẹ tôi thức dậy sớm hơn tôi.)

Making a film takes a long time and is very hard work. Writing the story for the film may take many weeks. Filming the story, or shooting the film, often takes at least six months. Actors and cameramen work from very early in the morning until late at night. Each scene had to be acted and reacted, filmed and refilmed, until it is just right. Sometimes the same scene has to be acted twenty or thirty times.

The film studio is like a large factory and the indoor stages are very big indeed. Scenery of all kinds is made in the studio; churches, castles and forests are all built of wood and cupboard. Several hundred people work together to make one film. Some of these people are actors and actresses. The director of the film, however, is the most important person in a studio. He decides how the scene should be filmed and how the actors should act.

Most people go to see a film because they know the film stars in it. Sometimes the film may be very poor. It is best to choose a film made by a good director. Some famous directors make their film very real. People feel that they themselves are among the people in the film.

II/ Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

The thing I liked most when I was small was the change of seasons. Spring, summer, autumn and winter — I could see them all come and go and each one was completely different. Now in the city, you can buy summer flowers in winter and eat the same vegetables all the year round. Whereas, in the country, I could only eat things at certain times of the year, for example, strawberries in June and turnips in winter. I lived my childhood with the seasons.

We also made most of our food and would never eat frozen or tinned food. Everything was fresh, so it must be better than the type of food I am taking now in the city. City people may think people in the country miss a lot of things about modern life. In fact, in my opinion, they miss a lot more than people in the country, they miss real life.
